The Southwest Parkway Moves Forward
The Southwest Parkway from IH 30 to FM 1187 is now moving into its final phase of development. Environmental clearance has been issued, the development of the Nature and Character Plan and Corridor Master Plan completed, the overwhelmingly majority of right-of-way acquired, and final design completed by the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) and approved by the Fort Worth City Council.
The City of Fort Worth was responsible for acquiring all right-of-way within the limits of the SH 121T project from Dirks Road/Altamesa Blvd. (with the exception of right-of-way at the IH 30 (including the crossing at the Trinity River) and IH 20/SH 183 interchanges, which is being acquired by the Texas Department of Transportation. The City was also responsible for clearing the right-of-way and relocating businesses, which has been completed.
NTTA is responsible for the design, construction and operation of the Parkway. Through the City’s Project Team and the Citizens’ Advisory Group, the City was involved in reviewing the final design, which was approved by the City Council in late 2008. The goals of the Corridor Master Plan have been achieved.
The Southwest Parkway will consist of five separate contractor firms to be selected to construct the project from downtown to Dirks Road/Altamesa Boulevard. Work has been initiated on the network of arterial roadways supporting the Southwest Parkway. The Southwest Parkway is scheduled to be open to traffic in 2012 and will be operated as an “all electronic” toll road with drivers utilizing a “TollTag.” The toll tag can be used on any tolled facility in the NTTA System locally or on any tollway in the State of Texas.
With the major pre-construction activities completed, the City of Fort Worth is directing web visitors to check the NTTA Projects page for the most current construction letting and facility opening information for the Southwest Parkway. The project website will remain active throughout the construction of the project so that web visitors may access historical information about the project. Thank you for visiting the site. The City of Fort Worth is very appreciative of the support and interest in the Southwest Parkway web visitors have shown during the development of the project.
